Symantec, known for their leading anti-virus & cybersecurity software Norton, acquired LifeLock in 2017. The acquisition combined two leading organizations in the digital security field creating what we believe to be one of the largest and most capable digital security provider to date. This puts LifeLock leaps and bounds ahead of the pack providing even more value for anyone looking to purchase identity theft protection as it adds additional layers of cyber security to an already stellar product.

In our opinion, when most people think identity theft protection, they think LifeLock. Since their aggressive marketing practices over 10 years ago where CEO, Todd Davis, drove around New York City flaunting his social security number fearlessly to now, LifeLock has led the way in both marketing itself as a leader in identity theft protection but also backing it up by evolving its product to consistently evolve the identity protection market. Before we get into our likes and dislikes, it’s easy to see why LifeLock is our top pick.

What We Like Life Lock review positives

We love the product evolution of LifeLock’s service and their constant investment into providing the best memberships possible for consumers. As technology and personal information monitoring becomes more robust, LifeLock stays at the forefront of those changes and incorporates elements that will yield protection for its members, especially when compared to free credit monitoring services.

In 2012, LifeLock acquired ID Analytics and in 2017 LifeLock and ID Analytics were acquired by Symantec, an enterprise risk management used by U.S. corporations. With ID Analytics alert data, LifeLock holds a significant advantage from a technology standpoint over its competitors.

LifeLock’s membership options are also a big plus to their overall identity theft protection service offering. Not everyone has the same income levels, the same risk level, or same behaviors online or offline, but anyone can fall victim to identity theft. LifeLock’s membership plan variety allows consumers to choose between the following 3 levels depending on needs and assets to protect (LifeLock Junior® membership is available only along with an adult membership.

  • LifeLock Standard™
  • LifeLock Advantage™
  • LifeLock Ultimate Plus™
  • LifeLock Junior™

In addition to providing an excellent identity protection product, they are also highly motivated in providing the highest quality customer service. We’ve heard numerous stories of LifeLock U.S.-Based Identity Restoration Specialists developing long term relationships with LifeLock members once those members have experienced identity theft and are in need of resolution and restoration. This is a testament to LifeLock’s care and dedication to its members.

The evolution of their identity theft protection is also a big LIKE for us. With LifeLock’s premier products, LifeLock Advantage™ and LifeLock Ultimate Plus™, members receive credit reports and scores1 as part of their membership, all accessible through their online member portal 24/7.

The credit scores provided are VantageScore 3.0 credit scores based on data from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion respectively. Any One-Bureau VantageScore mentioned is based on Equifax data only. Third parties use many different types of credit scores and are likely to use a different type of credit score to assess your creditworthiness.

What We Don’t Like Life Lock review negatives

There’s not much that we don’t like about LifeLock when we review its position in the identity theft protection space. After all, it has a price point that’s accessible for pretty much anyone and in our opinion provides the best identity theft protection service available, what’s not to like?

The Bottom Line

The bottom line is simple, if you’re going to invest in helping to protect your personal information and purchase identity theft protection, your money is best spent enrolling in LifeLock. LifeLock’s memberships provide excellent and reliable protection at a great price.

LifeLock and ASR are so confident that you’ll be satisfied with the service that through this LifeLock review we’re offering up to 30% off your membership for the first year (terms apply)! Click here to see plans and pricing and enroll online*.

LifeLock identity protection services offer multiple layers of protection, LifeLock Scans & Alerts†, Defends, and Restores. And LifeLock separates itself with the addition of proprietary technology and the experience as an industry leader to add confidence and trust behind its platform.

Detection

Without a doubt LifeLock offers robust identification and detection capabilities when compared to other providers through its ID Analytics data & technology capabilities. No other identity theft protection provider has access to the visibility and algorithmic insight that ID Analytics provides through its technology platform.

Alerts

Another advantage of LifeLock comes in its “Alert” phase of identity protection. LifeLock also delivers best in class alerts† when something goes wrong. Let’s take a closer look:

LifeLock Identity Alert™ System† is the foundation for all LifeLock services. LifeLock monitors for fraudulent use of your Social Security number, name, address, or date of birth in applications for credit and services. The patented system sends alerts by text, phone‡‡, email, or mobile app.

Restoration

If LifeLock detects suspicious activity on a customer’s account and have been notified and verified that the event was suspicious, the LifeLock U.S.-based Identity Restoration Specialists steps in.

We know what to do. LifeLock’s U.S.-based Identity Restoration Specialists are ready to help with identity theft restoration. And if your identity is ever compromised, an Identity Restoration Specialist takes charge.

Most people familiar with identity theft protection services are familiar with LifeLock’s Million Dollar Protection™ Package†††. But what exactly does that mean? No, they’re not going to give you a million dollars if your identity is stolen and no they’re not going to repay you if you incur damages up to a $1,000,000 as a result of ID theft.

What LifeLock’s team will do is come to your aid in helping resolve your identity theft event every step of the way. So, what about the Million Dollar Protection™ Package†††, right? If you become a victim of identity theft, LifeLock helps protect you with our Million Dollar Protection™ Package†††. This includes reimbursement for stolen funds and coverage for personal expenses, each with limits of up to $25,000, $100,000 or $1 million depending on your plan, and coverage for lawyers and experts if needed up to $1 million, to help resolve your case. Coverage may include:

  • Document replacement fees
  • Child and/or elderly care
  • Fraudulent withdrawals
  • Travel expenses
  • Lost wages

Expertise & Knowledge Base

As a LifeLock member you’re benefited with all of the great assets listed above but what’s rarely mentioned is LifeLock’s leadership, experience, and overall expertise in the world of identity theft protection services.

LifeLock provides significant resources to its members and even those who are not members to educate and inform on the realities of ID theft.

LifeLock has continually evolved its product that started as just one identity protection plan to what is now a suite of services to fit a variety of needs based on what the consumer is looking for. Here’s a quick and easy breakdown of each LifeLock product.

LifeLock Standard™

The entry level product of LifeLock’s suite of identity theft protection services, LifeLock Standard™, offers more than entry-level identity theft protection. LifeLock Standard™ identity protection includes:

  • LifeLock Identity Alert® System†
  • Lost Wallet Protection
  • USPS Address Change Verification
  • Dark Web Monitoring
  • Reduced Pre-Approved Credit Card Offers
  • U.S.-Based Identity Restoration Support
  • Million Dollar Protection™ Package†††
  • Regular Price: $9.99/mo (plus applicable sales tax)

LifeLock Standard™ Review

During our review of LifeLock’s products we found that all of them from top to bottom provide solid protection and resolution for identity theft. Beginning with LifeLock Standard™ as their base product is a great place to start. Our LifeLock Standard™ review shows that this service provides good protection at a very affordable price, especially when combined with ASR’s 30% off your first year offer (terms apply). Members get protection with LifeLock’s proprietary LifeLock Identity Alert™ System† as well as their base services listed above, which we’ve come to find during our review of LifeLock is leaps and bounds ahead of the competition.

LifeLock Advantage™

LifeLock’s intermediate identity theft protection plan services those consumers who are looking for more than the basic level of protection provided in LifeLock Standard™ but maybe don’t want to spend the $30 per month cost of the LifeLock Ultimate Plus™ plan, or simply don’t have a need for that level of protection. LifeLock Advantage serves that consumer well and comes with all services included in LifeLock Standard™ as well as:

  • Fictitious Identity Monitoring
  • Court Records Scanning
  • Data Breach Notifications
  • Credit Card Activity Alerts†
  • Credit, Checking and Savings Account Activity Alerts†
  • One-Bureau Annual Credit Report & Credit Score1 – The credit score provided is a VantageScore 3.0 credit score based on Equifax data. Third parties use many different types of credit scores and are likely to use a different type of credit score to assess your creditworthiness.
  • Regular Price: $19.99/mo (plus applicable sales tax)

LifeLock Advantage™ Review

Our Review of LifeLock Advantage™ as a stand-alone product was eye-opening and impressive. For the cost of service, we don’t find more value anywhere in the market. In addition to the great protection and resolution you receive in LifeLock’s base product, LifeLock Standard™, with Advantage™ you get the addition of monitoring of your financial accounts such as checking, savings, and credit accounts. If you’re at the point of reviewing LifeLock products to enroll in, take a heavy look at LifeLock Advantage™ because it’s value is hard to beat.

LifeLock Ultimate Plus™

If you couldn’t tell by the name, LifeLock Ultimate Plus is the flagship and most comprehensive level of identity theft protection offered by LifeLock and includes everything in theLifeLock Standard™ and Lifelock Advantage™ plans, plus:

Third parties use many different types of credit scores and are likely to use a different type of credit score to assess your creditworthiness.
  • One-Bureau Monthly Credit Score Tracking1 – The credit score provided is a VantageScore 3.0 credit score based on Equifax data. Third parties use many different types of credit scores and are likely to use a different type of credit core to assess your creditworthiness.
  • File Sharing Network Searches
  • Sex Offender Registry Reports
  • Priority 24/7 Live Member Support
  • Regular Price: $29.99/mo (plus applicable sales tax)

LifeLock Ultimate Plus™ Review

Reviewing LifeLock Ultimate Plus™ is easy, just try to find what it doesn’t provide because all of the important items are taken care of in spades. Protection from ID Analytics and the LifeLock Identity Alert™ System†, Credit, Checking and Savings Account Activity Alerts†, Investment Account Activity Alerts†, dark web monitoring, Three-Bureau Annual Credit Reports and Credit Scores1, LifeLock’s online member portal with all the bells and whistles, and who can forget their 24/7 live member support team and Million Dollar Protection™ Package†††. Review LifeLock Ultimate Plus™ and you’ll find that it has the bases covered for a very fair price. Our top recommended identity theft protection plan hands down.

The credit scores provided are VantageScore 3.0 credit scores based on data from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion respectively. Third parties use many different types of credit scores and are likely to use a different type of credit score to assess your creditworthiness.

LifeLock was founded and previously based in Tempe, AZ by Todd Davis and Robert Maynard in 2005 to bring to market an American identity theft protection company intended to identify and potentially stop fraudulent credit and non-credit related activities on an individual’s personal information. Amidst controversy in 2007, Maynard left the company leaving Davis as the sole CEO. Later, LifeLock evolved its detection capabilities with the acquisition of ID Analytics following a round of funding in March of 2012. LifeLock announced its initial public offering shortly thereafter and released stock to the market in Q3 2012.

Got a message on the 11th that my docusign account had been used on the 12th. How could you know on the 11th that my account was entered on the 12th. Tried off and on on the 11th to reach your customer service on the phone I never got to speak to a person but I did get to wait 20 minutes on each of three calls before I gave up. Tried again today same response. No response. Finally found a chat site. After about 15 minutes a chatter came on. After taking me in circles . He said he couldn’t help me. But he did give me a new phone number. Tried it and got another 20 minute wait. This company charges enough mthst they shoul quit relying heavily on robots and hire real people to help customers

For over 2 years, I’ve been told Lifelock has been working on a problem, I encountered. Lifelock, always has said, it’s not there fault, it’s the other company’s problem? The problem has not been cared for! It seems Lifelock loves to say the internet is complicated. “Their working on it.” It’s over 2 years and their still working on it? Funny, if the internet is so complicated, why are so many entities being hacked? I have to say this, Lifelock gives you the answer, they want you to hear. I guess, it doesn’t matter, how much you pay for the best service, Lifelock offers? Over 2 years and they are still working on the problem.

Lifelock did an automatic renewal for my account. I wasn’t aware of it. I tried to access my account, but I didn’t remember my account information. I requested a password reset email, but is never came. I attempted to get that email multiple times, but it never came. I called customer service to try to cancel the membership. I had to supply them with my social security number, the amount I paid, the coupon I used when I made the purchase, the name of the other person on my account, but I couldn’t answer which year I first started using Lifelock, I did tell them it was the year of the Equifax breech, and I couldn’t answer when was the last time I called them and why I called them. I don’t ever remember calling them. The customer service rep then told me she had to lock my account because I couldn’t answer the last 2 questions. She also said the only way I could cancel my account was to login to my account online, but they won’t send me the password reset for my account. The supervisor I spoke to said the only way I could verify my account was to fax them a series of documents I don’t have. I told them this was fraud on their part. I will file a dispute with my bank. Hopefully it will work. If it doesn’t, that will be the last amount they will get from me.

It seems someone falsified my signature and entered into an equipment lease agreement. Upon discovery I noticed that there was a past due notice on my credit report. LifeLock didn’t catch it, I never received any notification from LifeLock. I knew from Capitalone bank before Lifelock and its a free service.

The protection works, however, their phone support system is by far the worse I have ever experienced in my entire life.

It makes you say and spell out your name, and never gets it right. Some advice, use the “F” word and it will transfer you to an agent. takes a couple of minutes.

Then they want your FULL soc. number and birthdate, and they are clearly offshore. This does not give me confidence in their ability to protect my identity.

After you give them all your information, you discover that they cannot do anything for you, and have to transfer you to a “supervisor” or :”member services”….Back into the phone systems, Press 1 to waste your time.

Whoever designed or manages their support group should not only be fired, but be drawn and quartered.

I’ve now been a LifeLock member for about 2 or more years and I had a free service through our work as well since our insurance provider got hacked. So Lifelock has worked pretty good for me so far as to having credit ran or big transactions in my bank account. Sometimes the service is a bit slow! I have everything set to my liking in the settings of lifelock and so far so good. I also have my young boy on the Jr plan as any S.S. information is available to steal these days. Lifelock did detect a hit on my son on the Deep Dark Web, not sure what the process was when that happens. So far after having all of my information stolen just like the millions of us, I don’t really want to take a chance. After all lifelock does offer the $1 million guarantee!! My odds of being hit with fraud are probably pretty slim, but it’s better to be prepared for a situation than say Oh Dam afterwards!
I will continue to use the service and pay for the standard plan.

I had LifeLock for a very short time. Whether or not their services are effective, I cannot say, but use of my identity was rendered unto me alone before, while, and after giving them my business. I leave them one star because they sent me a letter in the mail and in bold print was the phrase, “We miss you…” A company known to protect identities blatantly announces to anyone who happens to see your mail that your identity is not protected, therefore theirs for the compromising…? Bad form.

I have had LifeLock for several years. It is amazing that when I have applied for a loan or Credit Card, I was always notified in minutes f the application and asked if I made it. I have also had credit monitoring form Experian as a result of a breach at a major retailer. The notification came from that service 7 days later. The horse would have been out of the barn if I wasn’t the one making the application. I have LifeLock Ultimate.

Off to a bad start – spent over 30 minutes providing 2 SSN’s, 2 birthday dates, 1 address, 2 telephone numbers, must have repeated this stuff 4 times each, provided credit card info, email, agent did not ask authentication number on back of card. agent could verify my name & SSN but was unable to verify my wife’s SSN and name. The verification problem resulted in my wife being assigned to some “basic” plan, which according to the agent was set up for situations like this. A huge amount of monotone verbiage to describe plans. After all was done agent attempted to transfer me over to “customer service” but was unable to transfer call and provided a telephone number. Agent said he would send confirmation number to email and welcomed me to Life Lock.

I then called number and provided my name and other info without results – they had no record of my acceptance – and finally got to talk to some other person who then transferred me back to sales – like a circle.

Not wanting to waste another 30 minutes I declined to go through the entire process again and hung up.

Life lock appears to have shabby cheap customer service. I verified that my credit card was not charged.

If Life Lock cannot handle a simple sale and verify a person’s SSN status when read from a SSA 1099 it does not look that Life Lock could be trusted to perform 24/7 credit monitoring and protection.

Looks like I will keep on shopping – you get what you pay for – cheap does not cut it.

We enrolled in Lifelock for several years. Our credit card was used out of state frauduantly and we were not notified by Lifelock. When I reviewed my credit card statement I found over $500 in unauthorized uses. I contacted the credit card company and then Lifelock. They said they don’t do anything unless the credit card company doesn’t investigate and resolve the problem. All along we thought life lock was protecting our credit. What a mistake. Be aware

I have had Lifelock for the past three years. I never received an alert when I moved and opened new utility accounts last year (new accounts for services that I did not have before). Someone opened a credit card account in my name and I called Lifelock and asked why I didn’t receive an alert. I was told that if I wanted an alert on an account being opened in my name, I would have to get the more expensive version of Lifelock. What the hell am I getting for my money? I will never use them again.

    Very upset,
Registered on Sunday 26, 2117 then tried to go to customer to add more info and they could not find me.
Went back to register again, said they couldn’t find the original. Started all over and paid for it, never got an email from them. So started today Monday 27th, still no email and still could not find me.
I talked to 5 people today and was disconnected each time right after giving my name. This is not a good start with LIFELOCK. I just want to get this over. Identity stolen last week and LIFELOCK was recommended to me. Please get your phone lines fixed and take care of your customers. STILL WAIITING for email to verify if new enrollment did their job.
    FRUSTRATED CUSTOMER.

I think they fall short when it comes to credit cards being used elsewhere and I get notices from my bank days before life lock even knows and I received a notice from lift lock one month later on credit issues.

My house was broken into about 6 months ago and the thieves stole a bunch of papers and stuff with personal information on it. They even got my sons birth certificate! I immediately signed up for LifeLock and have been very happy with the service. Last week I got an alert about someone trying to use my credit at Verizon for something and LifeLock was able to stop it before anything bad could happen. I’m sure this was the same jerk trying to use my name and am so thankful I had LifeLock when he did!

I’ve had Lifelock for about 4 months and am happy with the service so far. Setting up my account was easy and I like the bank account activity alerts that I get emailed to me as well as the free credit score tracking on my account page. Overall, I’m happy with Lifelock’s service.

I’ve been a member for a bit over 2 years. Lots of players in this market but LifeLock has been around the longest with the proven history, the two biggest reasons I went with them over the others. Overall mostly happy with the service, I get notified whenever credit is applied for in my name (ie: I buy a new car/house, or get credit card), when changes are made to my financial accounts, etc.

Even though a little pricey for my budget LifeLock is great for ID Protection (but I guess you get what you pay for). Their website is very user friendly and it’s really easy to set up your accounts. They provide excellent customer service should you have any questions or concerns. In addition to everything else they monitor all your accounts very thoroughly with timely information and updates.

I’ve had LifeLock for almost a year now and am very happy with the service. After having setup all of my account info and personal information in their member portal (which was very easy), its clear their system is keeping track of my transactions and monitoring financial activity by the frequency of alerts they send. However, I do wish they were a little more timely as it sometimes takes a day or two before I receive an alert about a purchase I’ve made.

I haven’t had any issues yet with fraudulent activity to REALLY see what their made of but I’m confident that if something we’re to happen I’d be in good hands with them.
